MINUTES: January 3, 2001 meeting

The meeting was started at 7:33 PM with President John Artuso in the chair.  There were 14 members present.

John welcomed David Hanson and Craig Skinner as the new Vice-President and Secretary respectively.

The December newsletter was a bit late getting out due to the holidays and as a result will be included with this mailing.

Treasurer Doug Ireland reported that at the end of 2001 we had $1562.37 in the bank with $180.00 of that allocated towards the field relocation fund.  Ivan Kristensen had made a $50 donation to the field relocation fund.  Thank you Ivan.  On the topic of the recommended size of the field relocation fund, Bill Bohn asked how much the present field cost to set up and Don Coulman suggested that we come up with a figure equal to one or two years of regular field maintenance.  The executive will try to come up with some figures for the estimated cost of moving fields.

It was announced that next months meeting on February 7th will include a swap / sale / trade between members.  Remember to bring all of your bits and pieces.

The membership showed interest in a mall show again this year.

The membership will be capped at 70 this year.  Remember to renew both your MAAC and your Gremlins memberships.  Doug has his laminating machine at the meetings for your cards.

John Artuso reviewed the events of the past year.  It was a busy year with the fun fly, hot dog day, mall show, talks and presentations.  John would like to extend a hearty thank you to all of the club members who volunteered their time for such things as field maintenance and organizing club events.  Last year was a very successful year and it could not of been accomplished with out your support.

There was a discussion on the availability of instructors.  John Artuso stated that he would like to see more people volunteering as instructors.  It was noted that some instructors will accept call at home from students looking to set up instruction and that this is indicated on the instructor’s list, which can be accessed through the web site.  Thursday night is student’s night and students are given priority when flying.

Ivan Kristensen mentioned the R/C Aerobatics Forum 2001 that will be held at Royal Canadian Legion, 919 York Rd, Guelph on January 27 from 9 AM till 4 PM.  Note: the MAAC magazine has the date as January 20, this is wrong and the correct date is January 27.  This forum holds interests for all including Scale, pattern, building techniques and a venders area.  Visit Ivan’s web site http:/tor-pw1.netcom.ca/~ivankris/index1.html for more information.

Ivan also talked about the possibility of having a guest speaker to come in and give a presentation on theory of flight.  Mr. Terry Teipp is a flight instructor and has already made the presentation to the Kitchener club.  The membership expressed an interest in having Mr. Teipp come in.

Jake Brandsma won $18 in the 50/50 draw.

The meeting adjourned at 7:46 PM with a motion from Ivan Kristensen, seconded by Bill Hanson.

Andrew has redesigned the Gremlins web site http://fly.to/guelph.gremlins go and have a look.
